The cost of providing hospice care often exceeds the reimbursement received. Donations and memorials are used to provide care for patients with no medical coverage, as well as offset the cost of medications, equipment, bereavement, and other comfort measures. Monetary gifts also help to cover the expenses of music, massage, and therapy dogs.
