What is grief?
Grief is a strong, sometimes overwhelming emotion, regardless of whether sadness stems from the loss of a loved one or from a terminal diagnosis. Individuals may find themselves feeling numb and removed from daily life, unable to carry on with regular duties while saddled with their sense of loss.
Grief is a natural response to the death of a loved one. Everyone’s journey of grief is personal and unique. At the time of a loved one’s death, there are many new experiences and emotions. Grief is often painful and overwhelming. At Hospice of Douglas County, we are here to support you.
Our Bereavement Support Program
Hospice of Douglas County offers a variety of supportive resources. We provide bereavement services for 13 months to families after the loss of a loved one. Our Social Worker or Chaplain can provide one-on-one grief support and visits upon request. Trained bereavement volunteers make phone calls, send handwritten letters and are available to visit with bereaved family members. All services are available at no charge and confidential.
Grief Support Group
People who are grieving the death of a loved one share a common bond. Our monthly support group provides an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. Information that is shared is confidential. Our support group is available for all who have experienced the loss of a loved one. There is no charge to participate.
